All of us are are members of the World Subud organization, who can be called survivors and our sole intention is to share our experience and pass the contact to anyone who sincerely ask for it. There is no hidden agenda, our motivation is to pass on this gift that came to this world for reasons unknown to any of us. It is nothing new but the way it has manifested this time is remarkable. It is now there just for the asking.
What we can say is that it is real, real as the very air we breathe that sustain us. There is much more in Subud, the organization, its enterprises and cultural activities etc. Our only intention here is to get people in touch with this gift or blessing as we realize it would be a great tragedy if anyone who is sincerely seeking would miss the bus through our negligence. Rest is up to you, nothing in this world is achieved without effort, sweat and toil.
ABOUT SUBUD
In the year 1925 a very extraordinary event took place in Java, Indonesia. Unknown to rest of the world, a very ordinary human being had a extraordinary experience. At the time it happened this person did not know the full significance of his experience or what it would mean to thousands of other human beings who later would benefit from it. What you are reading is about the very beginning of the Subud movement, when a young man age twenty four years received a gift from the highest source in creation. His name was Muhammad Subuh Summohadjwidjojo and often called Pak Subuh or affectionately called Bapak by his family and Subud members. Subuh means Sunrise in Bahasa Indonesia and must not be confused with Subud the organization, the movement was called SUSILA BUDDHI DHARMA in Indonesian or SUBUD in short form. Many explanations are found in the links and the web about its meaning.
Since you are reading this on a website, you will be exposed to everything that has been written by various people about Subud, the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY. We can steer you to a few good websites but the real truth is something each human being must find out by themselves.Truth and reality you can hide for sometime but will emerge out of the shadows for those who sincerely search for it. What we suggest is that you meet some of the Helpers from the group in Colombo and ask all the questions you want before any conclusions or decisions are made.
Subud has spread to more than eighty countries and each country if it has sufficient members has a Center where members meet. Sri Lanka has its Subud house in Colombo - 4. There is a committee with a Chairperson which works like in any other organization. Then there are "Helpers" whose responsibility is on the spiritual side, and in time some of them will meet you and answer your questions and even witness your "opening". if it happens. In Subud there are a few words like Latihan or Latihan Kejiwaan, Helper and "opening" that may sound foreign that needs some clarification.
LATIHAN or Latihan Kejiwaan
It is nothing new and one can venture to say it is as old as creation. It is also the heart and essence of the Subud experience.
It is a spontaneous experience that cannot be described by words, it cannot be studied and discussed to arrive at some understanding.
So there are no teachers in Subud, and the real teacher is within you. Ultimately it can be a guiding source in your life. Each persons experience varies according to the nature of the individual.
HELPER
A helper is not a special person in the Subud organization with authority, but they have special responsibilities. Helpers are chosen from members who have done Latihan for many years and are convinced of the reality of the Latihan. They also have a special function and that is to be able to " test" or receive guidance for themselves and members when required. It need not be said that if a member does not have this capacity yet, then it is not possible to function as a helper. Helpers work is thank less job. However many consider it a great blessing to serve Subud in this capacity.
TESTING
"Testing" is a perhaps the most difficult word in Subud to explain. If we had a words like "receiving guidance" it would be easier. However the word Testing has come to stay and for lack of words we can say "Testing" is a way of receiving personal guidance from our inner being with the help of the latihan. There is also what is called "group testing" and can sometimes be a very powerful experience. If anything makes Subud unique it is this ability to receive guidance THROUGH TESTING.
However we need to walk before we run and its best to leave "testing" for the proper time.
THE OPENING
It is rare for two people to have the same experience. Each person according to their capacity and their ability to let go will experience something.
It must be said that it is a momentous event in our life when we are "opened" and we are able to receive the contact. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER that those Helpers present at your opening are only witnesses. When we become aware of a life within us even for a moment, the MAGIC MOMENT has arrived. It can be also felt as an awakening to a life within us. A moment of stillness or emptiness when everything comes to a stop and you are aware of this unknown life within, something you had never experienced before. once opened the journey begins and it is said that this grace will remain with you forever.
This is only the beginning as we now need to nurture, make effort to persist week after week into years doing latihan with others to progress. So it is important that you are fully aware that this what you are seeking and not willing to get opened to satisfy your curiosity or having an idea to get opened and then going on our own. However there is nothing to prevent you from walking away from Subud at anytime.
With all what you may hear or see about Subud, the best is to rely on your own intuition and experience. There is no better teacher.
